TRANSFER UTILITIES WHEN CLOSING ON A HOME-OBX

By Following these simple steps it should ensure a smooth transition for both sellers and buyers.

We are glad to assist with whatever we can. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

If you are a Buyer:

Electric-NC Dominion Power: The sellers will notify Dominion Power to alert them of the property transfer before closing. You will need to call them at 1(866)366-4357 one week before closing with the property address to set up your new account

Cable: You may choose your provider and set up your account after closing. You will need the address and telephone number associated with property. Some local companies include, CHARTER 1(888)438-2427, DIRECTV 1(800)490-4388, and DISH 1(855)318-0572.

Water: We will send registration form on your behalf to the county. Both Currituck and Dare (whichever applied to your new property) will contact you for account information, deposit, and payment information.

Gas: Seller may choose to return their tank to company if it is a rental. If you wish to take over existing account, please let us know and we will work on coordinating this for you with Seller's Agent. We can also provide you with existing companies that service your area to contact if you would like.

If you are a Seller:

Electric: You will need to contact Dominion Power 1(866)366-4357 to have your power TRANSFERRED, not cancelled. Have your account number and telephone number handy, as you will need these. The buyer will follow up and provide their contact information a few days before closing to set up their account.

Cable: Contact your cable company to cancel service. New owners will set up separate account. We would be glad to collect all boxes and remotes and coordinate delivery with you.

Water: We will send registration form on your behalf. Please confirm with us where you would like to have your final bill forwarded.

Gas: Service must be cancelled by current owner. If tank is a rental and you wish to leave for buyer (and this has been coordinated through agents) you will need to indicate this to your gas company. They will be able to assist you properly in the transfer process.
