The State has okayed the purchase of the 7-acre span of property that is adjacent to Corolla Bay neighborhood, for Mid-Currituck Bridge. This span will connect from mainland Aydlett to Currituck Outer Banks, and has been purchased for $5.7 million dollars. Currituck County has been advocating for this bridge since the 1970's. By purchasing now, the State Board of Transportation believes taxpayer's money is being saved because the low rates in today's market are bound to rise. The money that is gained from tolls will come straight back to our State, which is a major plus. Construction is starting by the end of the decade (late 2019) and set to be open to traffic by 2025.
